Crank hub failure is the most feared issue on the S55 engines of the BMW M3 F80 / M4 F8x and M2 Competition. Affecting the original engines, the risk of failure increases on tuned engines and the installation of the Alpha Competition crank hub capture plate is one of the most affordable and simplest solutions to limit the risk. Installed without taking the engine out, this capture plate will hold the crankshaft hub bolt in place, in order to prevent it from loosening, which could lead to the breakage of the pulleys.
